Gail and Martin find the Duckworths holidaying in a neighbouring caravan. Betty meets a face during celebrations for the fiftieth anniversary of VE Day. The Wiltons notice that one of their garden gnomes is missing.

Gail and Martin begin to communicate again. Samir confides his doubts to Jim about donating a kidney. Betty and Billy reflect on losing touch fifty years ago.

Nicky skips school to entertain Melanie at Number 5. Betty has her hair done to attend a tea dance with Billy. The Wiltons receive a postcard from their missing garden gnome.

Deirdre hastens to the hospital where she is given heartbreaking news of Samir. Denise invites Fiona to become the salon's manager. Steve receives an unwelcome visitor.

Tracy grows impatient for an explanation for Deirdre's absence. Vera informs Jack that she has lost her job. Billy upsets Betty with a thoughtless remark.

Jack learns the full extent of Vera's financial despair. Bet and Raquel encourage Betty to call on Billy. Alf fears being branded a thief, while Audrey covets a conservatory.

Don drives Alf and Audrey to London for the investiture ceremony. Mavis and Rita persuade Derek to run The Kabin during their absence. Sally and Kevin offer to help Bill pay his tax bill.
